Though disappointing, the United States Department of Transportation has declined to award Boulder County $26M to fund construction of the initial three miles of the North Foothills Corridor Safety Project and Bikeway.
C4C is grateful to Boulder County for pursuing this highly competitive grant opportunity. C4C extends its thanks to CDOT, Governor Jared Polis, The City of Boulder, and its supporters as well for committing to the matching fund requirement.
The project is too important to give up on and C4C will stay the course, along with its partners, to bring funding to the project in order to execute on mobility, safety, and comfort for all. That means staying committed to contributing matching funds and working with partners on executing leading standards in transportation.
For comparison, the US 36 Boulder – Westminster Project and bikeway took 20 years. The 119(B) Boulder – Longmont Project took 15 years to fund, multiple attempts, and is now in construction. The problem does not go away. The solution remains the same. Persistence is the answer.
