First Annual Crank it Forward Fundraising Party: A Fundraising Party Furthering Cyclists 4 Community’s Mission of Improving Safety and Enjoyment of our Roads for Everyone
Boulder, CO-April 27, 2017 — Cyclists 4 Community will be hosting an evening fundraising event on May 12, 2017 at Rembrandt Yard in Boulder, Colorado, in support of its efforts to improve relationships between cyclists and local communities, and to launch its new road cycling safety initiative. The event will run from 7 to 10pm (doors open at 6:45) and feature live music, food and beverages from local businesses, guest speakers, and a silent and live auction. Cyclists 4 Community, also referred to as “C4C” was founded in 2013 after the catastrophic floods, is a grassroots, Boulder County focused nonprofit organization, focused on supporting the Boulder community.
The event features an evening of great food from local restaurants, including The North End at 4580, Proto’s Pizzeria, and Jamestown Merc, as well as donated beer from Boulder Beer Company and wine distributors. Music will be provided by Little Victories. Items up for auction include a luxury getaway at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, a Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 Disc race bike, and a three-night stay in Salida, with use of a brand new Audi, courtesy of Audi Boulder.
“Crank It Forward is for cyclists of all kinds to come together and rally toward our mission of improving ties between cyclists and residents of local communities where we ride, and improve the safety and enjoyment of all users of the roads we ride on,” said C4C co-founder and president, Rob Andrew.
“Since we were founded in 2013, following the floods, we have raised more than $200,000 for the towns of Jamestown and Lyons,” says Russ Chandler, co-founder and past president. “In the past two years with the Bike & Brew Festival, we are proud to have also helped out EFAA, Boulder Mountainbike Alliance, Boulder Food Rescue, Boulder Valley Schools Trip Tracker, Nederland Cold Springs Fire Relief, and Bicycles 4 Humanity,” Chandler adds.
“Thankfully, we have not had a catastrophe as big as the 2013 floods. While we are continuing to be prepared to help in similar situations, we’re turning our attention now toward improving the safety and enjoyment of the roads where cyclists and drivers frequently interact. As cyclists, we recognize that we need to become better ambassadors on the road, if we expect drivers to treat us courteously,” adds Andrew. “Crank It Forward hopes to raise $40,000 or more toward our new programs.”
In 2017, C4C’s primary focus is on cyclist and driver safety. Recent events have highlighted that our roads and trails are getting more and more crowded and an emphasis on safety is needed. One of the featured guest speakers at this year’s Gala is Bri Davis. Bri’s husband, Bill Davis, a 35 year old father of three, was killed in a tragic accident in Boulder last June when he was hit by a motorist, on westbound Jay Road near 30th Street. “My hope is to help create awareness and cooperation on the roads between cyclists and drivers in an effort to prevent any more cycling accidents,” said Bri.
Rembrandt Yard will be the host of this exciting gala event and about 150-200 guests are expected to attend.
