C4C (Coalition 4 Cyclists) is a passionate, mission-driven organization dedicated to accelerating more and safer cycling in Boulder County. Originally founded for natural disaster relief, C4C has evolved to be the leading advocate for improved infrastructure and road user regulations.

C4C’s mission is to improve the safety of cycling and the perception of cyclists within Boulder County by:

  • Liaising with government agencies (Boulder County Commissioners, DOTs, city councils) to advocate for bicycling safety.
  • Increasing cycling participation through safer and connected bike lanes, separated paths, and improved motorist awareness.
  • Supporting state and federal grant applications by articulating community financial support.
  • Reaching out to the cycling community to encourage safe and appropriate cycling behavior.
  • Coordinating with supporting NGOs such as Community Cycles, Bicycle Colorado, and Boulder Mountainbike Alliance.

The Opportunity

A driven leader has the opportunity to develop and build on C4C’s mission, initiatives, and program development as the organization continues to grow in reach and effectiveness. The Executive Director will drive strategy, foster community connections, and turn advocacy into measurable safety outcomes. Key areas for development include corporate engagement, cycling community outreach, and identifying, funding, and executing additional avenues (beyond infrastructure) of enhancing cycling in Boulder County.

Key Responsibilities

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall success and operations of C4C, including:

  • Strategy & Leadership: Guide and motivate a small, high-impact team, manage budgets, measure program effectiveness, and ensure organizational excellence. Develop and implement strategies that support the Board of Directors’ direction.
  • Community & Advocacy: Lead community outreach, building strong relationships with residents, schools, businesses, and local officials to elevate cycling safety as a shared priority. Represent C4C with confidence to engage city leaders, transportation agencies, funders, and the media to advance policy and infrastructure improvements.
  • Fundraising & Partnerships: Spearhead fundraising efforts, cultivating donors, securing grants, and developing partnerships that fuel C4C programs (e.g., Crank It Forward).
  • Marketing & Communications: Oversee all marketing and communications, shaping a clear, compelling public voice that grows awareness, drives action, and positions the organization as the trusted leader in safe cycling.
  • Volunteer Management: Build and support a thriving volunteer network, recruiting, training, and inspiring people to participate in events, safety campaigns, and community programs.

Desired Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of non-profit organization experience.
  • Proven fundraising track record.
  • Actively involved and passionate about the greater Boulder County community and cycling community.
  • Strategic leadership experience, especially within small teams.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with disparate groups in fostering cooperation and achieving common goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology tools such as digital marketing and social media.
  • Ability to forge and develop strong, long-term relationships.
  • Note: Proven experience with nonprofit management and fundraising is a plus, but not strictly required.

Compensation & Structure

  • Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000.
  • Compensation Detail: Base salary of $80,000, plus incentives for fundraising.
  • Benefits: Health benefits via a monthly stipend of up to $529/month (QSEHRA).
  • Reporting Structure: The Executive Director is an at-will position and reports to the C4C Board of Directors.
  • Team Resources: Supported by the Board of Directors (who have accounting, legal, and business experience), governmental agency liaison staff (part-time), and event planner support.
