C4C’s US 287 Comments to Boulder County Regarding US 287 Planning

Coalition 4 Cyclists, 501c3 fully supports Boulder County staff’s proposed US 287 Safety and Mobility upgrades.  C4C’s primary objective is the full expression of the network multi-modal elements of the Boulder County TMP.

The proposed upgrades satisfy C4C’s primary objective regarding the TMP.  Specifically, the separated hard surface multi-use path that is indicated in the case of highway speed and volume roadway traffic.

The separated path connects via improved intersection design, signalization, signing, access, and a median barrier to the existing or planned network of multi-modal infrastructure indicated in the TMP all of which results in safe and appealing choices to access work, services, and play.

Eventually, the whole of the multi-modal network in the TMP will be greater than the sum of its parts.  C4C applauds Boulder County for leading in this work.  Specifically, C4C applauds staff person Alex Hyde-Wright’s role model work on transportation in Boulder County.

C4C’s only suggestion would be that automated enforcement be clarified county-wide.  Intoxication, distraction, and excessive speed are three main factors in killed and seriously injured.  Feasible countermeasures like automated enforcement need to be implemented systemically and soon.

Bit by bit, Boulder County in partnership with CDOT is realizing a great network multi-modal system.  C4C applauds it.
